Capture the Cosmos At Your Fingertips
Introducing the Seestar S30 smart telescope! When you see the Seestar S30 in person, it might look like a small toy. Make no mistake, though: the Seestar S30 is an incredibly powerful telescope!
ZWO first announced the Seestar S50 in April of 2023, which is the larger sibling to the S30. The S50 has been wildly successful and revolutionized the world of smart telescopes by making astronomy accessible to anyone.
Now, the S30 is an even smaller & more portable smart telescope and features a dual lens design. Thanks to a variety of intelligent imaging modes, the S30 is able to produce jaw-dropping photos of the night sky like the ones below from your own backyard!
As Easy As 1-2-3
No astronomy experience is required to use the S30, meaning anyone can capture the cosmos without the steep learning curve. Using the S30 is truly as easy as 1-2-3:
- Connect to the Seestar S30 via the official Seestar App.
- Place the Seestar S30 under an open, clear night sky.
- The Seestar S30 automatically aligns itself and suggests the best space objects for the night. One you choose an object, it will begin sending stunning photos like the ones below straight to your smartphone!
Tiny Telescope, Huge Capabilities
The S30 smart telescope features a long list of impressive features that let you capture astrophotography images with ease!
Three Versatile Shooting Modes
- Stargazing Mode lets you capture photographs of deep sky objects like galaxies, nebulae, star clusters, and more
- Scenery Mode is used for photographing terrestrial objects like landscapes, cityscapes, & wildlife
- Solar System Mode lets you take stunning photos of the Moon or even the Sun when you attach the included solar filter
Dual Lens Design
The S30 features two lenses: one telephoto lens and one wide angle lens. The telephoto lens is used for taking close up shots of astronomical and distant objects, while the wide angle lens lets you capture landscapes and nightscapes while making it much easier to find objects before zooming in.
Seamless Sharing to Social Media
When you're ready to share your photos, you can simply save them to your smart device and post away. Also included in the Seestar app is a social network for sharing and staying up to date with the latest images from other Seestar telescope owners in the community.
Four Filters Included
The S30 comes with four filters — three built in and one external solar filter — for capturing a wide variety of subjects no matter where you are. Included are:
- Light pollution filter with dual band passes that allow only light from nebulae to pass through. This filter lets you image space from wherever you are, even in a city or suburbs!
- UV/IR cut filter is best used on broadband targets like galaxies and star clusters.
- Dark frame filter is used automatically by the S30 to remove unwanted noise from your photos.
- Solar filter (pictured above) is included in the box and you can attach it to the S30 to safely take photographs of our home star.
Go Extra Wide with Mosaic Mode
Take smarter mosaic images with the Seestar S30's new mosaic mode, which can automatically stitch two images together from adjacent patches of the night sky. This allows you to get larger fields of view than normally possible, like a panorama photo can.
AI Noise Reduction
The S30 utilizes the power of AI to reduce noise in your astrophotography images, resulting in a much cleaner final image.
Up to 6 Hours of Battery Life
The S30's internal battery can last up to 6 hours on one charge (4 hours when using video mode). You can also connect a portable battery to the S30 with the included USB-C cable for even more battery life.
3 Different Photo Modes
The S30 features three different photo modes: photo, time lapse, and video recording to allow you to get the best shot possible, whether it be of the night sky or terrestrial objects!
Seestar S30 vs. Seestar S50 Comparison
The Seestar S50, the first smart telescope from ZWO, has been a smash hit for its amazing abilities at a price point many could afford. Now, ZWO has released the Seestar S30, which is a smaller version that retains most of the same image quality for an even lower price! We'll go over a few of the biggest differences below:
Image Quality & Field of View
The Seestar S30 features a slightly wider field of view than the S50 thanks to its shorter focal length, but retains the same great image quality that the Seestar S50 is known for! The larger field of view helps fit more of larger objects in frame, which many users prefer. If that's not wide enough for your needs, you can also use the built-in mosaic mode! Mosaic mode takes multiple images of different points in the sky and then stitches them together automatically, allowing for larger fields of view.
Dual Lens vs Single Lens
The Seestar S30 features a dual lens design, which allows for more photography possibilities than the S50's single lens. While both models share a telephoto lens, the Seestar S30 also features a wide angle lens that can capture stunning landscape images and makes finding objects in the night sky significantly easier!
Size Difference & Form Factor
The S30 telescope body is smaller than a 1-liter bottle of soda, meaning you can truly take it anywhere like in a backpack or on a plane! Compared to the larger S50, the Seestar S30 is a staggering 41% lighter and 20% smaller. The Seestar S30 weighs just 3.6 lbs (1.65 kg) total including the tripod compared to the S50 which weighs 5.5 lbs (2.5 kg).
